Advocacy on the Television across Europe (2005) reports

Making use of the new data and findings of the 2005 Television across Europe monitoring reports, the Open Society Institute carried out advocacy to promote the reports' recommendations and follow-up initiatives to implement them. Over the past three years, it presented several contributions to international organisations and events.

Contribution to the EC consultation on the application of state aid rules to public service broadcasting
In March 2008, EUMAP submitted a contribution to the European Commission's consultation on the application of state aid rules to public service broadcasting.
Debate: "RAI's public service contract: a chance to relaunch a real radio and television public service in Italy"
On 22 October 2006, the Eurovisioni International Festival of Cinema and Television staged a debate during its closing session about the renewal of the service contract of Italy’s public service broadcaster RAI. The debate was centered on the content of the Italian chapter of the 2005 "Television Across Europe" report.
Participation in public hearing of the EP Intergroup on Press - Communication - Freedom
Mark Thompson, one of the editors of the Television across Europe monitoring reports, was a guest speaker at a public hearing organised by the European Parliament Intergroup on Press-Communication-Freedom.
Contribution to the EP debate on the amendment of the TWF Directive
In May 2006, the Open Society Institute EUMAP and Media programmes submitted a position paper to the Members of the European Parliament involved in the debate on the review of the "Television without Frontiers (TWF)" Directive.
Contribution to the CoE Group of Specialists on PSB in the Information Society
In March 2006, the Open Society Institute EUMAP and Media programmes submitted a position paper to the Council of Europe's Group of Specialists on Public Service Broadcasting in the Information Society (MC-S-PSB), ahead of its third meeting.
