Television in future EU member states

The Open Society Institute submitted information about the situation of broadcast media in four countries to the European Commission, to serve as relevant material that can be used for the preparation of the Commission’s 2008 Progress Reports.

Each year, the European Commission drafts reports on the progress made in various fields over the previous twelve months by each candidate and potential candidate country.

The European Commission drafts its progress reports on the basis of material collected by its offices in each of the candidate or potential candidate countries, as well as on the basis of other sources. Among these are submissions contributed by non governmental organisations.

The Open Society Institute regularly contributes material to the Commission which can be used in assessing the situation. Below are a number of submissions by OSI's Media Program and EUMAP, focusing on the situation of broadcasting in four candidate and potential candidate countries in south-eastern Europe.
