23 May 2008: Bulgarian television landscape dominated by business interests, not public interest

Press release: According to Assya Kavrakova, author of a new OSI report on television in Bulgaria, “business interests rather than policy decisions have dominated Bulgarian broadcasting in recent years. As a result, and in spite of EU accession, not much has been achieved since the publication of our 2005 report: public service broadcasting is in dire need of a new regulatory framework on funding, new commercial TV licences are still frozen, and digitalization is still surrounded with uncertainty”.
